Strategy steals the show as Shahin and Patterson triumph at the Silverstone 500

The 2026 British GT season opened at Silverstone with a three-hour race that turned on strategy rather than outright pace, as Yasser Shahin and Garnet Patterson claimed victory for Optimum Motorsport in their McLaren 720S GT3 Evo. Darren Leung and Dan Harper had dominated from pole for Paradine Competition, only to be undone when Optimum's two-stop approach cycled Shahin and Patterson to the front as rivals pitted under green flag conditions with time running short. The result marked the first Australian victory at the Silverstone 500 since 1997, and was sealed by just 1.4 seconds at the flag. In GT4, Innovation Racing converted pole into a debut class win with Thomas Holland and Hadley Simpson, while Jessica Hawkins and Will Orton brought the MK Racing Aston Martin home second.
