McRae Snatches Rally North Wales Glory as Evans Heartbreak Unfolds on Final Stage
Max McRae and co-driver Cameron Fair took a dramatic victory at the Get Jerky Rally North Wales, snatching the win from home favourite Meirion Evans in the closing moments of the final stage. Evans had dominated for much of the day through the Aberhirnant and Dyfnant forests, building a 16-second lead at midday service, only for a spin on the final test to hand McRae the victory by just 2.3 seconds in his Skoda Fabia RS Rally2. Elliott Payne and Patrick Walsh rounded out the overall podium in third, while the National Historic category produced its own drama, with Marty McCormack and Barney Mitchell winning in their BMW E30 M3 after early leader George Lepley retired with mechanical trouble.
